WAFFLING

April 1, 2019

On the rare occasion when I awaken from a sound sleep by a dream, I am certain it has a meaning. Hidden or not, a meaning for which I must search.

So here I am with a well decorated table. There is a commercial size waffle iron with more than a dozen toppings. I am entertaining a group of ladies. At my grandmother’s home. First off, busha has been gone for roughly 45 years. The dream took place in her large Niles home. When she lived there, she was overweight, elderly, and nearly blind. She hobbled in the kitchen preparing all meals. She was not a perfect housekeeper. But she kept a perfect house. Because of her sight, she “thought” her home was spotless. Because of her pride, she would never hire someone to clean her house. But she loved to cook and have the house filled with family, so we always turned a blind eye to the lack of cleanliness.

This particular dream, busha was in the living room surrounded by her sons (of which she had seven). They were making sure she was getting her meds and oxygen, neither of which she had. She always refused medical attention.

So why the party in her home with waffles?

  • Waffles are a real treat, plain or with all the fixings.
  • Sweet, joy-filled food, waffles are fun!
  • Waffles – family, sharing, time together.
  • A sign of creative thinking?
  • An indication that I am waffling on decisions?
  • Do I need to be more persuasive or authoritative?

Maybe the dream was nothing more than the fact that I crave some good old-fashioned waffles and I am missing busha?
